Alessandra Lima

I have a BS degree in Psychology from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro and an MS degree in Mental Health with a major in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy.

I’ve always been very curious, even as a child, and liked to understand things around me. My eyes were fairly keen on people’s difficulties, and I’ve enhanced that skill with very objective thinking. As a result, I developed significant problem-solving skills. To be more specific, my approach now is to help people solve their own problems.

My choice for a career in Psychology was a perfect match for this early motivation of mine. At the same time, when I started as a public service provider in the field of mental health in Brazil, I had a chance to perceive the limitations in psychotherapy listening when it comes to the social, economic or educational aspects of individual suffering. This is why I dedicated extensive thoughts of my own and conversations with other therapists to eventually secure partner support for this Pergunta à Psicóloga project – and here I am, introducing myself to you!

My professional background includes a ten-year experience in the outpatient’s clinic of a public health unit in my native city of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and my current practice is now focused on welcoming and evaluating cases that require more urgent treatment in public
psychiatric care units.

The patients I see come from a variety of different backgrounds and we do not allow them to wait in line, which means we welcome any type of demand in our 24/7 service. Our team welcomes people any time to evaluate their claims
claims so we can help them make decisions in a very short span of time.

It is a very rich type of work where I am joined by other mental health professionals such as psychiatrists, nurses and other assistants, including social workers and occupational therapists. Our evaluations may induce individuals to get back to their previous treatment or seek whatever basic care unit service that suits their needs, or the psychiatrist may prescribe medication and even mental health  services of greater complexity.

“It is really rewarding to say that we are available 24h a day and to see the positive effect that qualified humanized advice may produce.”
